Kenya security officials link stability to economic growth

During the Mashujaa Day Thematic Week in Eldoret, Kenyan security officials emphasized the critical link between peace, infrastructure, and economic growth. Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo stated that stability is essential for businesses to thrive and for public infrastructure projects to deliver economic benefits, particularly in previously insecure areas.

Omollo highlighted improvements in the North Rift region, noting that communities are returning to normalcy, markets are reopening, and children are resuming school. He specifically cited ongoing road projects in the Kerio Valley, such as the Kilang’ata-Tot-Kopasi and Barpello-Tot-Sigor-Marich corridors, which are intended to improve connectivity and market access. He also called for police reforms, including better recruitment, training, and equipment.

Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat added that a peaceful environment underpins opportunities across various economic sectors. He noted that Elgeyo-Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, and West Pokot counties have experienced three years of relative peace. Additionally, Omollo noted the recent recovery of over 3,000 illegal firearms in the North Rift as part of ongoing disarmament efforts to improve safety.
