Kenya Sets Ambitious Tourism Targets and Launches Nairobi Commitment to Boost MICE Investment
Kenya’s tourism leaders and the Africa MICE Hub adopted the Nairobi Commitment, a three‑part blueprint aimed at turning meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) into a major investment and trade proposition for the continent. The pact outlines three strategic priorities – building convention infrastructure, advancing technology and skills, and unlocking capital through clearer policy and partnership models. Government representative CPA James Mwaura, standing in for Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, presented the commitment at a round‑table in Nairobi.
Kenya’s Tourism Principal Secretary Julius Bitok announced a goal of attracting five million international visitors each year by the end of 2026, roughly double the 2.7 million tourists currently recorded. Officials cite expanded air connectivity, market diversification and easier business conditions as key levers, while noting Africa’s regional markets as a growth engine.
The 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) will be held 6‑8 October 2026 in Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens, featuring more than 10,000 delegates from 40 countries, over 400 exhibitors and 250 vetted international buyers – the largest edition yet. Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei said the expo, themed “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism”, demonstrates Kenya’s readiness to lead Africa’s tourism transformation through data, digital innovation and public‑private partnerships.
