Kenya launches nationwide KPSEA and KJSEA assessments
More than 2.4 million Grade 6 and Grade 9 learners in Kenya began the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) on Monday, October 26, 2026. The five-day assessment period is a critical component of the country’s transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba supervised the secure distribution of materials in Makueni County, working alongside multi-agency teams from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Interior to ensure integrity. Ogamba issued a warning to parents and students against fraudulent schemes involving individuals claiming to sell leaked examination papers.
Data from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) shows 1,298,089 Grade 6 learners registered for the KPSEA and 1,130,669 Grade 9 learners for the KJSEA. The assessments are designed to evaluate practical competencies and determine learner progression to senior school under the new curriculum framework.
