Kenya to hold national commemorations for Raila Odinga

A week-long national commemoration will be held from October 10 to 17 to mark the first anniversary of the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The events are scheduled to conclude at his ancestral home, Kang’o ka Jaramogi, in Bondo, Siaya County.

To oversee the activities, the Odinga family has established a national steering committee chaired by Prof Adams Oloo, assisted by vice chairpersons Otiende Amollo and Joe Ager. Mama Ida Odinga, the widow of the former Prime Minister, stated that the commemorations are intended for all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation, to honor his legacy of justice, peace, and democracy.

Several institutions are establishing honors in his memory. The University of Nairobi is set to launch the Raila Centre for Democracy this month, and Daystar University is planning a symposium. Additionally, the Kenya School of Government has established the Raila Odinga Regional Leadership Academy, a centre of excellence focused on governance, public sector leadership, and public administration studies.
