Kenya Urban Roads Authority extends Eldoret Road closure
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced an extension to the closure of Eldoret Road in Nairobi. Originally scheduled to reopen on September 18, 2026, the road section will now remain closed until 6 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2026.
The extension is required to facilitate the ongoing construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River. KURA cited unforeseen logistical and site-related challenges as the primary reasons for the delay, specifically noting that the delivery of critical construction materials and equipment was delayed due to factors beyond the contractor's control.
KURA stated that the authority and the contractor remain committed to completing the project according to required safety and quality standards. Motorists are advised to continue using alternative routes, including parallel local streets in the Eastland area, connections via Ngong Road, or links to Mbagathi Road and Lang'ata Road.
