Weather warnings and power outages reported across Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe
Multiple African nations are facing weather-related disruptions. In Kenya, the Kenya Red Cross has urged residents in Kirinyaga and Embu counties to prepare for potential El Niño conditions, which could trigger flooding and landslides. Simultaneously, Kenya Power has announced several rounds of scheduled electricity maintenance, resulting in planned outages across various counties including Nairobi, Nandi, Vihiga, Migori, Nyeri, and Kirinyaga.
In Nigeria, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms, moderate rains, and strong winds across the northern, North-Central, and southern regions through the middle of the week. The agency warned of unsettled weather patterns that could impact multiple states.
In Zimbabwe, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) issued an advisory warning of widespread rainfall, lightning, and strong winds. The MSD noted that some areas could receive more than 30mm of rain, posing risks of flash flooding and damage to crops and structures.
