Kenya: Woman arrested for alleged fraud in deceased estate land sale

Detectives from the Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) have arrested Agnes Wairimu Gachanja for the alleged fraudulent acquisition and sale of land belonging to a deceased estate. The investigation began after two administrators of their late father's estate, who passed away in 2008, discovered an irregular transfer during a succession process search at the Thika Land Registry.

The search revealed that a parcel of land measuring approximately 0.0825 hectares in Juja Farm had been transferred to an unknown individual without the administrators' knowledge or consent. Investigations established that the property was subsequently sold for Ksh800,000.

Gachanja was apprehended in Ruiru while attending a defense hearing for an unrelated land fraud case. Following a review by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), she is expected to face charges including conspiracy to defraud, uttering false documents, and intermeddling with the property of a deceased person.
