Kenyan football league faces uncertainty amid legal disputes

The start of the 2026/27 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) faces uncertainty as clubs threaten to boycott the season unless it is managed by an independent body. The Sports Disputes Tribunal is expected to rule on a petition by Kariobangi Sharks, which challenges their relegation from the top league. Current legal orders prevent the FKF from finalizing the league composition until the case is determined.

Despite the administrative uncertainty, clubs are continuing pre-season preparations. AFC Leopards recently secured a 1-0 victory against Tanzania's Pamba Jiji FC in Mwanza during a pre-season tour. Other clubs, including Gor Mahia, Kenya Police, and Murang’a Seal, are also conducting pre-season activities, with Gor Mahia recently finishing second in the 2026 Cecafa Club Cup in Rwanda.
