Kenyan MP Babu Owino Installed as Leader of Nairobi Luo Council of Elders

On 30 July, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was formally installed as the leader of the Nairobi Chapter of the Luo Council of Elders. The ceremony, attended by representatives from all 85 wards of Nairobi County, also featured his coronation as a Luo elder.

Owino said the council granted him the freedom to engage with other communities in Nairobi as he seeks support for his bid to become the city’s next governor. He pledged to use the role to promote unity, strengthen national cohesion and improve service delivery for Nairobi residents. The installation follows his recent announcement of plans to launch a new political party, which he will lead, with senior positions to be allocated across different regions of Kenya.
