Kenyan Politics: Gachagua Impeachment Scrutinized as Kindiki Pushes Vision 2060

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for fresh scrutiny of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's October 2024 impeachment, citing remarks by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed that suggested some lawmakers received financial benefits from the process. Musyoka argued that such admissions raise constitutional questions about the legality of the impeachment, which was upheld by the Senate and led to Gachagua's removal from office. The former deputy president maintains the removal was politically engineered, and his legal challenge suffered a setback in June 2026.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, speaking in Tharaka Nithi County, urged Kenyans to look beyond the 2027 elections and support President William Ruto's long‑term Vision 2060 agenda. Kindiki highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, the revival of stalled road works, and the rollout of modern markets, emphasizing that the country's future should not be reduced to short‑term political contests.
