Kenyan President William Ruto pledges cheaper fertilizer and seeds to revive farms after crop failures

President William Ruto announced that the Kenyan government will lower the price of fertilizer and certified seeds starting next year to help farmers recover from widespread crop losses caused by failed long rains. He made the remarks at ACK Church in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County, urging farmers to take advantage of the upcoming short rains expected between September and December.

The plan includes strategic subsidies on inputs, expanded irrigation projects funded through a newly created National Infrastructure Fund, and a crackdown on counterfeit fertilizer following recent seizures of thousands of bags. Ruto also linked the measures to his Vision 2060 development agenda and called for a national dialogue on Kenya’s future, criticizing opposition parties for opposing the plan.
