Kenyan Senator Crystal Asige Removed from Senate Committee amid ODM Purge
Nominated Senator Crystal Asige of Kenya was removed from the Senate Committee on Roads, Transport and Housing. She said the committee was the platform for her work on inclusive transport, sustainable cities and accessibility for more than eight million persons with disabilities under the PWD Act of 2025. Asige described the reshuffle as a possible punitive action, stating, “If this is punishment by the leadership – so be it,” but vowed to continue serving Kenyans.
The removal forms part of a wider Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) reshuffle that also saw Senators Edwin Sifuna and Godfrey Osotsi taken off powerful committee posts and reassigned to less influential ones. Party insiders view the changes as an internal purge targeting members perceived to be aligned with opposition factions within the party.
