Kenyan truck drivers reportedly captured by DRC rebels
The Long-Distance Drivers and Conductors Association of Kenya (LoDCA) has issued a security alert following the reported capture of six truck drivers, including Kenyan nationals, by rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The drivers were seized along the Mahagi-Kisangani transport corridor, which passes through Pimbo, Djugu, Igabriel, and Bunia.
While the drivers have since been found safe and sound, LoDCA warned of escalating insecurity in the region. Reports indicated that dozens of people were killed in the area on the same day as the incident. Visual evidence showed damaged trucks with broken windows, deflated tires, and removed number plates, with cargo debris scattered on the ground.
LoDCA has advised drivers to avoid the affected corridor and remain in secure locations until safety can be verified. This incident follows previous attacks on Kenyan truckers in the DRC, including a fatal incident in Bunia in April and an ambush on the Beni-Kisangani road in August.
