Kenya's elite SOG graduates praised after seizing 2,000 guns
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen lauded the Special Operations Group (SOG) during the graduation of its 11th tactical course in Samburu County. He highlighted the unit’s role in curbing banditry and terrorism, noting that recent operations have recovered more than 2,000 firearms and 1,500 rounds of ammunition from criminal and extremist groups.
Murkomen emphasized that the newly trained 122 officers will strengthen Kenya’s capacity to confront violent extremism, disrupt organised crime, protect critical infrastructure and support cross‑border security missions. He linked robust security to Kenya’s economic growth, stating that safety enables schools, tourism, agriculture and investment to thrive. The cabinet secretary also warned that Al Shabaab and other terrorist organisations remain a significant threat, underscoring the need for continued inter‑agency collaboration among the National Intelligence Service, Police Service and Defence Forces.
