Kenya's NCIC probes 10 senior officials for alleged hate speech

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in Kenya has opened investigations into ten political leaders and public officials for alleged hate speech and ethnic incitement ahead of the 2027 general election. The persons under probe include former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, Busia Governor Paul Otuoma, Mandera Deputy Governor Ali Maalim, Sirisia MP John Waluke, MP Wanjiku Muhia, MP David Gikaria, Dr. Dennis Ouma and Tipape Naini Musa. NCIC Chairperson Bishop Kepha Omae announced the inquiries after a complaint from Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, stating that "no individual, regardless of office and standing, is beyond the reach of the law where credible allegations of hate speech or ethnic incitement arise." The commission, working with the Inter‑Religious Council of Kenya and other stakeholders, said the investigations will follow due process under the National Cohesion and Integration Act and aim to curb political intolerance and protect national unity.
