Kenya's ODPP launches outreach programme and approves fraud charges
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Kenya has launched the ‘Chapa Gumzo na Prosecutor’ initiative. This community outreach programme is designed to bring prosecution services closer to citizens and improve public understanding of the criminal justice system. During a meeting of commission chairpersons, Nancy Gathungu of the Commission on Administrative Justice commended Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga for the initiative, which allows the public to engage directly with prosecutors regarding criminal justice matters.
In a separate legal development, the ODPP has approved fraud and money laundering charges against a Turkana County Government nurse, a supplier company, and its director. The suspects are accused of acquiring and laundering over Ksh2.76 million through a county tender awarded between July 2020 and 2021. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) established that the nurse allegedly used a company in which he served as a director to secure contracts and subsequently withdrew the funds in cash to conceal their source.
