Kenya's ruling UDA attacks former president and pushes secretary general to resign

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Kenya issued a 12‑page open letter accusing former President Uhuru Kenyatta of economic sabotage, bitterness and undermining President William Ruto’s administration. The letter claims Kenyatta left a "broken" economy and blames him for rising fertilizer prices, collapsed agricultural earnings and stalled infrastructure projects, while praising Ruto’s record on health, housing and education.

Separately, a group of UDA MPs from the Mount Kenya region gave party secretary general Hassan Omar a 48‑hour ultimatum to resign after his controversial remarks about a nationwide matatu strike. The MPs cited his comments as inflammatory, demanded a probe by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission and called for criminal prosecution for hate speech. Omar has issued a public apology, but the faction warns they will petition party leader William Ruto to dismiss him if he does not step down voluntarily.
