Kenya's Wilson Airport Reopens Main Runway After Six-Month Shutdown

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) authorized the reopening of Wilson Airport's main runway (Runway 07) for daytime flights on July 29, operating daily from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The runway had been closed since the end of January for rehabilitation works aimed at expanding capacity and improving service delivery.

During the six‑month closure airlines relied on the secondary runway 14‑32 and shifted some operations to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, causing congestion. The runway's return eases the pressure and restores normal flight schedules for the airport’s commercial carriers.

The reopening follows a March incident in which Senator Godfrey Osotsi survived a Safarilink crash‑landing at Wilson Airport and criticised the airport’s emergency response, underscoring the importance of upgraded facilities.
