Kenyatta Hospital cuts aging trees to protect safety, storks

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) removed several over‑30‑year‑old African acacia trees from its grounds after a technical assessment identified them as safety hazards. Decayed branches had previously damaged steam pipes, fallen on parked vehicles and caused the death of nesting marabou storks. The removal was carried out ahead of the rainy season to prevent further accidents and to safeguard patients, staff, visitors and hospital property. KNH said it is working with relevant government agencies to ensure the welfare of the displaced birds and will launch a tree‑replacement programme, planting suitable species across the campus to restore green cover.

The hospital emphasized that the action balances public safety with environmental conservation.
