Kepplair Evolution prototype completes first pre-modification flights
Kepplair Evolution has reached a significant milestone with the first pre-modification flight of its ATR 72 prototype in Toulouse. The aircraft, intended to become the KEPPLAIR 72 multi-role water bomber for civil protection, completed two test flights before being grounded for conversion.
The aircraft will be fitted with the Kepplair Evolution Delivery System (KEDS), a 7,500-liter water drop system developed in collaboration with the Toulouse Institute of Fluid Mechanics (IMFT) and Trotter Controls. The conversion and certification process is being managed by Aerotec & Concept at the Toulouse-Blagnac facility.
Following laboratory testing, flight tests for the drop system are scheduled to begin in January 2027. The program aims to obtain a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) by 2027, with subsequent plans to seek certification from international authorities such as the FAA.
