Kepulauan Riau Library Department launches book donation program

The Riau Islands Provincial Library and Archives Department (DPK Kepri) has launched the ‘Sibuk’ program, an initiative encouraging the public to donate books and knowledge. This movement follows a significant budget reduction for book procurement, which dropped from Rp150 million to Rp40 million.

Due to these budget constraints, the department has limited its new collection additions to 111 titles for 2026. The program aims to collect donations from the community and redistribute them to various community reading centers throughout the Riau Islands region. The department noted that procurement efforts have been further hindered by budget adjustments at the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI), which has also postponed its national one-million-book procurement program.
