Kepulauan Seribu hosts Local Food Festival to promote culinary heritage

The Kepulauan Seribu Regency Government, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and the Orang Pulo Community, held a Local Food Festival in Pulau Kelapa. The event aimed to showcase local culinary heritage and stimulate the regional economy.

Activities included cooking demonstrations, such as making breadfruit steamed cake, and creative cooking competitions featuring banana, sweet potato, corn, and cassava. The festival also featured traditional dance, pencak silat performances, and a traditional snack bazaar. To support the initiative, a talk show titled ‘Local Food as Cultural Heritage and People’s Economic Strength’ was held, alongside food safety education provided by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM).

Local officials noted that the festival serves as an educational platform for the younger generation to learn about indigenous food sources and provides a promotional space to introduce local processed products to tourists.
