Kepulauan Seribu trains fish farmers in eco‑friendly cages for tourism

The Sub‑Department of Food Security, Marine and Agriculture (Sudin KPKP) of Kepulauan Seribu held a training on environmentally friendly fish‑farming using floating net cages (Keramba Jaring Apung) on Pulau Pramuka. Fifty participants, including fish‑farmer groups and ornamental‑fish business operators, received instruction on ecosystem impacts such as eutrophication and plastic waste, as well as on developing the cages as tourist attractions and educational sites.

The program, led by Kepala Seksi Kelautan Gama Eka Anantha, follows a similar session previously conducted on Pulau Lancang. Participants were also provided with starter feed and other aquaculture equipment. Gama said, "Through this training we want to increase the added value of floating net cages," emphasizing the goal of creating new income streams through eco‑tourism and recreational fishing.

The initiative aims to boost sustainable aquaculture capacity in the Thousand Islands region and to integrate it with the growing marine‑tourism market that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
