Kerala appoints G. Sparjan Kumar as new Transport Commissioner

The Kerala government has announced a reshuffle of senior IPS officers, appointing G. Sparjan Kumar as the new Transport Commissioner. He succeeds C. H. Nagaraju, who has been removed from the position.

As part of a broader restructuring of the senior police hierarchy, the government has elevated the status of the Transport Commissioner to be equivalent to the rank of Inspector General (IG) at headquarters. This change includes the creation of a new ‘ex-cadre’ post.

The Transport Commissionerate is responsible for enforcing the Motor Vehicle Act, managing vehicle registration, licensing, and regulating transport services. The department also plays a critical role in road safety and traffic law enforcement, addressing the ongoing challenge of high accident rates in the state.
