Kerala Assembly Speaker presents legislative models at Commonwealth meet

At the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town, Kerala Assembly Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan presented the state’s legislative practices as a model for democratic institutions. He highlighted the state’s subject committee system, which provides detailed scrutiny of legislation and administrative matters, as a pioneering measure in India.

Radhakrishnan also discussed initiatives to increase citizen engagement, including a proposed mechanism for the public to raise questions directly in the Assembly. Additionally, he emphasized Kerala’s rights-based approach to supporting persons with disabilities through legal frameworks and policies in education, healthcare, and social security.
