Kerala athletes secure government jobs and state cash rewards

Four athletes from Kerala have been appointed to government positions by the Mumbai Income Tax Department under a sports quota. The appointees include Sandra Mol Sabu, Jilna M. V., Shyam Prasad U., and Alphonsia M., who have achieved success in athletics, football, and badminton.

Sandra Mol Sabu, a gold medalist at the 2026 Asian U-23 Athletics Championships, and Alphonsia M., a national football player, were appointed as Multi-Tasking Staff. Jilna M. V. and badminton player Shyam Prasad U. were appointed as Tax Assistants. These selections were part of a recruitment drive for 97 vacancies that received 3,595 applications.

In addition to these central government appointments, the Kerala State Cabinet has approved increased financial rewards for local athletes. This includes Rs 20 lakh each for Commonwealth Games silver medalist Sreeshankar Murali and para-athlete Muhammed Basil.
