Kerala BJP proposes feasibility study for Sabarimala airport

Kerala BJP state president and MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar has proposed a feasibility study to the central government for a dedicated airport to serve Sabarimala pilgrims. The proposal suggests utilizing approximately 3,000 acres at Kodumon Estate in Pathanamthitta for the project.

Chandrasekhar met with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu to submit the proposal, which was originally put forward by senior BJP leaders Kummanam Rajasekharan and Anoop Antony. The site, located near Pampa, is being considered under the Centre’s Greenfield Airports Policy.

Currently, pilgrims must land at Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram and travel several hours by road to reach the pilgrimage center. Proponents argue a dedicated airport would improve connectivity for domestic and international travelers, support the broader pilgrimage circuit, and provide economic benefits to the Pathanamthitta region.
