Kerala Cabinet raises judicial retirement age to 62

The Kerala Cabinet has approved increasing the retirement age for judicial officers from 60 to 62. This decision follows a recent remark by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, who suggested that Chief Minister V D Satheesan, given his legal background, could be persuaded to implement the change. The Supreme Court has been advocating for this increase across various states to address mounting case pendency and retain experienced personnel within the subordinate judiciary.

In a separate development, Chief Minister V D Satheesan announced that the state will host a roundtable conference from September 16 to 18. The event aims to create a time-bound implementation plan for 73 projects announced in the state's renewed budget. The conference will involve various stakeholders, including department officials, policy experts, and financial institutions, to coordinate the 63 interdepartmental projects identified in the plan.
