Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan pledges to honour UDF promises and approves PM SHRI scheme
Chief Minister V D Satheesan said the Congress‑led United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala is committed to fulfilling every promise made in its election manifesto. The ruling alliance held its first meeting at the chief minister’s residence, Cliff House, to review progress since taking office in May and to chart a roadmap for the remainder of its term.
At the same meeting the UDF gave in‑principle approval to implement the central PM SHRI school scheme, arguing that the funds would otherwise lapse. Although the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had previously opposed the programme, it remained silent as the UDF allies, including senior Congress leaders, did not object. The decision overrides a pending sub‑committee report and signals the new government’s intent to continue policies of the previous administration while seeking additional private and foreign investment and a second land‑reforms law.
