Kerala CM says government was not informed of Kochi Metro name change proposal
Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan stated that the state government was not informed about a proposal to rename Kochi Metro Rail Limited to ‘Kerala Metro Rail Limited’. Satheesan noted that he only learned of the move through news reports and emphasized that no such discussion has taken place with the government, nor is the proposal under official consideration.
The announcement follows a release from Kochi Metro Rail Limited regarding the name change, which has faced opposition from Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden. Satheesan remarked that if the decision is made unilaterally without government consultation, the state does not intend to respond.
Separately, the Chief Minister addressed the upcoming Onam festival, stating that despite a severe financial crisis and recent natural disasters, the government is working to ensure the festive spirit is maintained. To support citizens during the season, he announced the early distribution of welfare pensions.
