Chief Justice of India Surya Kant resignation demand sparks political row

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has removed a staff member following a controversial social media post on X that demanded the resignation of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. The post, which has since been deleted, reacted to the Chief Justice's remarks that law and order matters do not fall under judicial purview during recent protests in Delhi.

KPCC President Sunny Joseph clarified that the post was published without the knowledge, consent, or consultation of the party leadership. He emphasized that the Congress party does not disagree with the impartiality of the judiciary and that the message does not reflect the official stance of the KPCC.

The incident has drawn sharp condemnation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju accusing the Congress of attempting to undermine constitutional institutions. Additionally, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) issued resolutions condemning the calls for resignation, stating such actions undermine the dignity of the office and the independence of the judiciary.
