Kerala extradites MDMA smuggling suspect from Abu Dhabi

Shaun Sunil Bret, a 24-year-old accused in a 2023 narcotics smuggling case, has been extradited from Abu Dhabi to Kerala. This marks the first time the Kerala Excise Department has successfully extradited an accused individual from abroad.

The case stems from a 2023 seizure at Netta Junction near Pulimath, where officials confiscated approximately 155 kg of ganja and 70 grams of MDMA. While other suspects were arrested, Bret fled the country. Following the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice, Bret was detained in the UAE.

Excise Commissioner Seeram Sambasiva Rao stated that the state government coordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs to complete the extradition. Authorities are now investigating Bret’s international connections and those who assisted him in evading arrest.
