Kerala government extends suspension of ADGP M.R. Ajithkumar

The Kerala government has extended the suspension of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajithkumar for an additional 120 days. The decision follows a recommendation from the Suspension Review Committee, which found no grounds to revoke his suspension at this stage.

Ajithkumar, a 1995-batch IPS officer, was initially suspended on July 24, 2026. The disciplinary action stems from allegations that he interfered with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe regarding police conduct during the Nava Kerala Sadas programme in Alappuzha in December 2023.

The SIT investigation into the incident, which involved alleged police atrocities against Youth Congress and Kerala Students Union (KSU) workers, suggested that Ajithkumar used his position as ADGP (Law and Order) to influence the investigation. Specifically, it is alleged that he directed personnel to alter case diary records to shield security officers attached to then Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan from accusations of assaulting protesters. Ajithkumar has denied these charges.
