Kerala government to examine demand for new Muvattupuzha district
Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan has announced that the state government will examine the demand to create a new district centered around Muvattupuzha. The proposal suggests forming the district by combining parts of eastern Ernakulam with low-lying areas of Idukki.
Addressing an event organized by the Muvattupuzha Municipality, Satheesan noted that the demand was raised by Muvattupuzha MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan, who alleged the region suffered from neglect and a development backlog during the previous LDF government's tenure. Satheesan promised that any developmental delays would be addressed and compensated.
The Chief Minister stated that the request would be considered as part of the process when the government constitutes a Delimitation Commission. While expressing personal sadness at the prospect of Muvattupuzha being separated from his home district of Ernakulam, he assured that the matter would be seriously examined.
