Kerala High Court amends internship policy for law students

The Kerala High Court has notified the ‘Internship Policy for the High Court of Kerala-2026 (Amended)’, which introduces new regulations for law students seeking internships. Under the revised rules, only students in the final two years of their law courses are eligible to apply, though an exemption is provided for those interning under the discretion of individual judges.

The policy applies to internships within the High Court, including chambers of judges and offices such as the Advocate General, Additional Solicitor General, Director General of Prosecution, and the Kerala State Legal Services Authority. It also covers the Mediation Centre and the Bar Council of Kerala.

Applications must be submitted through a forthcoming online module and must be forwarded through the principal or head of the student's academic institution. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the High Court will oversee the program, including application processing and attendance. The policy also establishes strict conduct rules, prohibiting the use of mobile phones, cameras, or recording devices inside courtrooms. Any unauthorized recording or social media circulation of court proceedings will result in immediate termination of the internship.
