Pinarayi Vijayan faces FIR in CMRL bribery case following High Court order
The Kerala High Court has directed the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) regarding an alleged bribery case involving former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family. The case centers on claims by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) made illegal payments totaling approximately 3.28 crore rupees to Exalogic Solutions, an IT firm owned by Vijayan’s daughter, Veena Vijayan.
The ED alleges these funds were not legitimate service fees but were intended as illegal gratification for the former Chief Minister. The court's order mandates that the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau proceed with the investigation, superseding a previously established Special Investigation Team.
In response, the CPI(M) has condemned the court's decision, labeling the ED's actions as a ‘political game.’ Party leaders claim that the investigation lacks evidence and that the court failed to hear the affected parties before issuing the order. They further alleged that CMRL officials were coerced into providing statements to the ED through threats.
