Kerala launches effort to create independent AYUSH University
Kerala's Health and Devaswom Minister K. Muraleedharan announced the formation of a four‑member committee to draft legislation for a standalone AYUSH University. The panel, chaired by the Principal Secretary of the AYUSH Department and including the State Mission Director of the National AYUSH Mission, the Director of Ayurveda Medical Education and the Principal and Controlling Officer of the Government Homoeopathic Medical College, is tasked with preparing a draft bill within two months.
The proposed university will bring all AYUSH colleges currently affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences under one umbrella, with its headquarters at the School of Fundamental Research in Ayurveda in Tripunithura near Kochi. It aims to provide an integrated framework for education, research, clinical training, drug development and policy initiatives across Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha and Unani, meeting international standards and strengthening Kerala's position as a hub for traditional medicine.
