Kerala launches experiential tourism trails to promote community travel

Kerala Tourism has launched the ‘Life Experience Trails Kerala’ project, an initiative designed to transform daily rural life into structured tourism products. Implemented by the Kerala Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission Society, the project aims to strengthen community-based tourism and create sustainable livelihoods by positioning the state as a model for experiential travel.

The rollout spans 10 districts, with Wayanad serving as a central hub. New offerings include coffee and tea trails, such as the Wayanad-Thirunelli Trail and the Wayanad-Chekadi Coffee Trail, alongside agri-tourism, traditional pottery, weaving, and village walks through paddy fields.

RT Mission CEO Rupesh Kumar stated that the trails seek to move tourists beyond conventional sightseeing, allowing them to immerse themselves in local culture through activities like joining farmers in fields or staying with rural communities.
