Kerala launches ‘My Police Station’ initiative to reform public interaction

The Kerala government has launched the ‘My Police Station’ initiative, a program designed to transform all 484 police stations in the state into more accessible and people-friendly environments. Launched by Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan at the Peroorkada police station, the initiative aims to improve how the police force functions and interacts with the public.

Under the new program, police stations will feature dedicated help desks for various groups, including women, children, senior citizens, transgender individuals, persons with disabilities, and victims of cybercrime. The stations will also provide specialized legal-aid desks and assistance with online services, RTI-related information, and obtaining FIR copies.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala emphasized that the goal is to ensure citizens feel comfortable seeking help and that their grievances are addressed. He also stressed the importance of adhering to Supreme Court directives regarding arrests and police procedures to prevent issues such as custodial deaths.
