Kerala MVD collects ₹5.7 crore in vehicle modification fines

In Kerala, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has collected ₹5.7 crore in fines for unauthorized vehicle modifications since the UDF government assumed office in May. RTI records indicate that 7,360 individuals were fined between May and August 25. In 2026 alone, action was taken against 15,784 vehicles, with fines totaling ₹12.66 crore issued. Common violations include unauthorized color changes, larger wheels, and additional equipment installations. Most penalized vehicles include motorcycles, scooters, and buses.

Additionally, the Central Information Commission (CIC) has ordered an inquiry into the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) regarding a two-year delay in responding to an RTI application from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). Information Commissioner Vinod Kumar Tiwari imposed a ₹10,000 penalty on a former NDMC public information officer and ordered ₹20,000 in compensation to the CERC. The CIC described the failure to provide basic information to a statutory body as an “extremely disturbing” situation.
