Kerala opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan condemns LPG price rise

Pinarayi Vijayan, leader of the opposition in the Kerala Assembly, criticised the latest increase in domestic LPG prices, describing it as an “anti‑people” measure. He urged the central government to withdraw the decision that raised the price of a 14.2‑kg cylinder by Rs 29, bringing the cost to Rs 951, the second hike within three months after a Rs 60 increase in March.

Vijayan also highlighted broader fuel inflation, noting petrol and diesel prices have risen by a combined Rs 7.50 per litre since mid‑May and CNG by Rs 6 per kilogram. He warned that the surge in commercial LPG prices is pushing the hotel industry into crisis and called on the Kerala state government to forgo additional tax revenue from petroleum price hikes and provide relief to households facing mounting cost pressures.
