Kerala Police implement highway safety drives and new AI technologies

The Kerala Police are implementing new measures to improve road safety and modernize policing through both legal enforcement and technological advancements.

In an action-taken report filed with the Supreme Court, Director General of Police Ravada Chandrasekhar detailed an ongoing drive to remove unauthorized constructions and encroachments along National Highways. This initiative, coordinated with the National Highways Authority of India and other departments, targets shops, advertising hoardings, and bus shelters. The report also identified several accident-prone “black spots” in districts including Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Wayanad, and Kannur to intensify surveillance.

Simultaneously, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala launched three digital initiatives: AI Track, the Integrated Beat Management System, and Cyber Wall. AI Track utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze traffic conditions and identify accident risks. The Integrated Beat Management System digitizes patrolling mechanisms to improve emergency response times, while Cyber Wall serves as an AI-powered assistant to combat rising cybercrime and provide security awareness.
