Kerala police intensify crackdown on traffic violations and road rage

Police in Kerala have intensified enforcement against traffic violations, specifically targeting pedestrian safety and habitual offenders. Under the ‘White Line–Lifeline’ campaign, the Kerala Police conducted a six-day statewide drive from August 20 to 25. During this period, authorities checked 55,207 vehicles and booked 1,038 violations at zebra crossings, resulting in fines totaling Rs 2.50 lakh.

In Kochi, enforcement efforts have been prompted by recent incidents of violence involving private bus crews. Following a road-rage incident on August 28 where three employees allegedly assaulted an autorickshaw driver, police discovered the involved bus had approximately 200 pending traffic violation fines. This follows another incident on August 21 where bus employees allegedly assaulted five passengers. In response, police have conducted multiple raids, resulting in arrests for drunk driving and other offenses, with officials stating that periodic crackdowns will continue to address habitual non-compliance.
