Kerala Police Officers Association opposes SI station charges
The Kerala Police Officers Association has submitted a resolution to the government opposing a decision to hand over police station charges to Sub-Inspectors (SIs) starting August 15. The association argues that experienced Inspectors should remain as Station House Officers (SHOs) to maintain the state's law and order standards.
The association noted that the Justice K. T. Thomas Commission had previously recommended appointing officers of Inspector rank as SHOs. Additionally, the group requested the creation of an additional Inspector post at every police station.
The association also raised objections to proposed organizational restructuring that would place officers from the SI to the Superintendent of Police (SP) rank within a single organization. They argued this could lead to administrative difficulties and allow SI-rank officers to dominate leadership positions in the proposed Police Senior Officers Association. They have called for the withdrawal of the order to abolish the existing Police Officers Association.
