Pinarayi Vijayan defends Exalogic deal amid ED investigation

Former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has defended the legitimacy of transactions between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Exalogic Solutions, a company linked to his daughter, T Veena. Vijayan dismissed the ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a politically motivated vendetta by the RSS and BJP.

The ED has alleged that CMRL paid approximately Rs 2.78 crore to Exalogic Solutions for IT consultancy services and has sought the registration of an FIR against Pinarayi Vijayan, T Veena, and PA Mohamed Riyas under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Vijayan maintains that the contract was a legitimate agreement for services rendered, that all payments were properly accounted for, and that necessary taxes were remitted to the government.

In response to the allegations, the Kerala Police has formed a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a preliminary inquiry. The SIT is currently coordinating with the ED to obtain further documents and evidence before deciding whether to formally register an FIR.
