Kerala PSC members resist SIT questioning in recruitment probe

A potential legal and institutional confrontation is emerging between the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) and the state's Crime Branch. Sixteen members of the PSC, including Chairman Mr. Baiju, have decided to resist appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning regarding alleged irregularities in the Kerala State Planning Board examinations.

The PSC members intend to challenge the validity of the notices issued by the Crime Branch, arguing that their constitutional status and the dignity of the institution must be protected. The commission is currently seeking legal counsel from senior advocates on the matter.

Conversely, the Crime Branch maintains that investigating officers have the authority to determine the location of interrogations and can issue notices under criminal procedure. The SIT, led by SP Zakaria, is investigating whether flaws in the recruitment process were administrative failures or a deliberate conspiracy to favor specific candidates. The investigation follows recommendations to cancel two controversial appointments within the State Planning Board.
