Kerala weather alert: Heavy rain and landslide warnings issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts in Kerala, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall through October 25. Orange alerts, indicating potential rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours, have been issued for districts including Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad across various dates.
The weather warnings follow a recent landslide near Parassala that derailed the Bilaspur-Tirunelveli Express. While the locomotive was derailed, all passengers and railway staff were reported safe, and services were restored after track repairs were completed.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised residents in hilly, coastal, and low-lying areas near rivers and dams to remain vigilant and move to safer locations if instructed by officials due to the risks of landslides and flash floods.
