Keraton Yogyakarta's Lulur Tradition Revived for Generation Z
The centuries‑old lulur body‑scrub tradition of Keraton Yogyakarta, which uses natural spices, flowers, leaves and roots, has been re‑introduced to young people. Purbasari organized an educational event called “A Touch of Royal Beauty” at the Candi Tirta Raharjo site in Yogyakarta, where a group of Generation Z women prepared the traditional royal scrub themselves.
Brand Executive Carensca said the activity aims to preserve Indonesian cultural heritage and to show that local natural ingredients can compete with foreign products. The brand is also launching modern‑styled lulur products that combine classic components such as chamomile, green‑tea extract, jasmine oil and niacinamide with contemporary cosmetic formulations, hoping to keep the royal ritual relevant in today’s beauty market.
