Kerngroep Weekendvoetbal ends legal fight with KNVB over mixed leagues

The amateur football advocacy group Kerngroep Weekendvoetbal has decided to cease its legal proceedings against the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) concerning the introduction of mixed Saturday‑Sunday competition formats in the second and third amateur divisions for the 2026/2027 season. After a short‑term injunction and a court ruling that upheld the KNVB’s plan, the organization announced that it will no longer pursue a substantive lawsuit, although it maintains its principled objections to the merged league structure.

The KNVB published its final competition allocations on 10 July, incorporating some of the group’s suggestions, such as later start times for Saturday matches involving former Sunday clubs and the inclusion of certain proposals in the Amateur Football Handbook. The Kerngroep acknowledges that the association has been prompted to reconsider aspects of its policy, but it stresses that the core issue of mixing Saturday and Sunday clubs remains unresolved.
