Kerry Jordan appointed Executive Director of Boston Election Department

Mayor Michelle Wu has appointed Kerry Jordan as the new Executive Director of the City of Boston Election Department. Jordan, a lifelong Dorchester resident and former chief of staff in the city’s Department of Innovation and Technology, is scheduled to officially assume the role on September 8, 2026.

Jordan succeeds the current leadership during a period of modernization efforts. The department has recently implemented electronic poll books to reduce voter check-in times and launched an Election Day call center to support voters and poll workers. These improvements follow previous challenges, including instances where polling locations ran out of ballots during the 2024 elections.

Until Jordan takes office, Paul Chong, the Commissioner of City Records, will continue to serve as the Acting Head of the Elections Department, overseeing day-to-day operations.
